about

Other Ways of Seeing is the second pre-studio era compilation following the New Modernism of psychedelic folk-influenced keyboard music that Rendina recorded in 2012. Two new age electronic tracks are included - He's Gone Astral, in reference to an astral projection tape circulating at the time, and Psychic Avenues, a monologue about E.S.P. The Sage is a satire referencing California Dreamin' and The Byrds' Turn Turn Turn how the counterculture can be found anywhere outside the West Coast of the United States. The Maypole is a classic song for the springtime ritual and a concept piece was later written for a maypole dance. Year of The Tiger and Ellis Island use the cluster technique perfected by Henry Cowell. The influence of John Cale (The Hour Glass), Laurie Anderson (Seven Seas), and even John Zorn (Ziggurat, Mystical Nights) is present. A few classic rock songs are included just for enjoyment - Suit of Hearts, City Woman, and The Carnival, while Illusion of Love and The Mind's Eye are about disillusionment with the scene.
