about

Heroes and Ghosts is the first instrumental piano recording by Rendina, having left open the possibility of writing future lyrics. A Blessing is a sparse and rhythmic Latin-influenced modern jazz song, while the others are of more classical and avant-garde rock leanings. Rolling ends with a loud crash in which one can hear the harmonics of the piano for a minute and a half, and originally contained lyrics about the use of fossil fuels. The Golden Harp uses a unique arpeggiating pattern emulating a plucked stringed instrument. The title track is gloomy and possibly refers to both Heroes by David Bowie and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, composed before Bowie, Lou Reed, and many other musicians from their generation passed away. It also may refer to Heroes and Villains by the Beach Boys with a different spin. The Ark and Carousel of Ages are reminiscent of old films. Let The Wind Carry You was also intended as a vocal song. Past and Present is a vamp in which the names of those who have passed away can be read. Today is a theatrical song in 7/8 and What's to Come pays homage to Something's Coming from West Side Story.
